Mahbanou Privacy Policy
Mahbanou for iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch and Android · Effective October 7, 2026
The short version: Mahbanou collects no personal information from anyone, children included. There are no accounts, no ads, no analytics and no tracking.
What stays on your device
The app saves your settings (language, theme, the calendars and occasions you show, your place for sunrise and the gahs, and your reminder choices) on your device only. It never sends them anywhere, and I can't see them. Change or turn off any of them in Settings, or put them all back as new with Settings › Reset settings; deleting the app erases everything.
Location
The app asks your device for your approximate location once, to work out sunrise, sunset and the gah times: on first launch after explaining why, or when you tap Use my location in Settings. It rounds the position further and keeps it with your settings on the device. It's never sent anywhere. If you don't allow it, the app uses the city for your device's time zone, and you can pick a city from the list instead.
Notifications
Reminders for occasions, the morning's roj, nabor (meat-free) days and the gahs are local notifications, scheduled on the device. Nothing is sent to a server. On first launch you choose which reminders you want and whether they arrive with a banner and sound or quietly. Switch any of them off in Settings › Reminders.
Widgets
The home screen widgets read your settings on the device. No one else receives them.
Sharing
The QR code for Mahbanou and the festival greeting cards are made on your device. They go only where you send them, through your device's share sheet, and Copy link puts the app's store link on your clipboard. Nothing is sent to me.
Network
Calendars, reminders and widgets work offline, and nothing about you is ever sent to me or anyone else. Links in Settings open in your browser. What each platform's app connects to, if anything, is below.
On iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch
To show which of my other apps are on the App Store, the app asks Apple's public App Store lookup about those apps (their App Store IDs and your region's country code), at most twice a day. Nothing about you goes with it, and I receive nothing. App Store pages for my apps open inside Mahbanou through Apple. If you choose quiet reminders, iOS delivers them to Notification Center without a banner or sound until you turn on alerts. The Apple Watch app gets the same settings from the iPhone directly over Apple's watch connection; deleting the iPhone app and its watch app erases everything.
On Android
The Android app has no internet access at all: it can't send or receive anything. On Android 13 and later, Android asks for permission before the app can show notifications; quiet reminders arrive without a sound or pop-up. Sharing and links hand off to the apps you choose.
Children
Mahbanou is for everyone. Because it collects no personal information, it collects none from children under 13, in line with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and the GDPR.
Changes
If this policy changes, I'll update this page and the date at the top.
